David Auerbach brings this poet to our attention: "Ponge is simply sui generis: his meticulous evocations of everyday objects stretch language in tiny yet revolutionary ways." Ponge wasn't just writing in a class by himself, he taught us that classes were irrelevant. Archipelago, Auerbach informs us, recently published a new edition of Francis Ponge's Mute Objects of Expression with the original French and its English translation.

I love Ponge! I first was introduced to his work by Wayne Koestenbaum, and then read Derrida on Ponge--v. good stuff, must dig this all out again and reread.
