I'm sitting on my couch yesterday half watching Olympic handball (not a bad sport, by the way) when this comes on:
I know it's not typically done, but wouldn't it be nice if advertisers would credit the source of the words (and music) in their commercials. If you don't know, words by Langston Hughes (narrated by Danny Glover), music by Mogwai.
Sorry to be the crotchety guy (Ed Harris will play me in the movie version) but, for me, nothing illustrates the eye-roll-inducing aspects of Northern Europe like team handball. That coupled with looking like the kind of sport that shows up in scifi because, you know, it's not the "Earth we know."
I say that as someone who (thought he) played competitive table tennis as a teenager.
And NBC kinda wooed me into watching race-walking with reasonably interesting coverage that, while not condescending or superior, acknowledged that it still can look ridiculous.
Still looking for someone to forward my proposal of marriage to Saori Kimura.

Team handball definitely has that scifi aspect to it. I also found myself fascinated w/ the trampoline competition but speed walking? That one I just skipped over.
