A few weeks ago, I mentioned that Pete Townshend planned to serialize a novella he has written. Well, he's up to chapter three, and after reading through these chapters, I have to admit that I'm pretty impressed and looking forward to the next installment. You have to appreciate a guy who not only embraces a self-publishing format such as a blog but also who leaves the comments section open and welcomes the criticism.
Meanwhile, another famous guitarist, Eric Clapton, is seeking a reported $6 million for his memoir, which would make this the most lucrative book contract in the history of rock memoirs. No offense to Clapton fans, but I can't imagine anything exciting coming from the desk of a man who writes such stirring ballads as "Tears in Heaven."
Yahoo is getting in on the digital library game: "Adobe Systems and Hewlett-Packard will supply software. Books will be provided by the University of Toronto and O'Reilly Media, and films by the Prelinger Archives and the United Kingdom's National Archives. Yahoo will index that content and fund the digitization of a collection of American literature selected by the University of California, according to an announcement posted to Yahoo's official blog..."
If you're considering putting advertisement on your blog, a new report about the typical blog reader has some good news about your revenue potential: "Blog visitors are 11 percent more likely than the average Internet user to have incomes of $75,000 or more, and are 30 percent more likely to live in households headed by someone between the ages of 18 and 34, the study found. During the first quarter, the average blog visitor viewed 77 percent more Web pages than the average Internet user, and spent 23 hours per week online, compared with 13 hours per week for the average user, according to the study. Regarding e-commerce behavior, blog visitors are 30 percent more likely to shop online than the average user."
Gogol Bordello, whose frontman Eugene Hutz stole the show with his portrayal of the English-challenged translator in Everything Is Illuminated, will be playing some dates in the U.S. beginning Wednesday in Pittsburgh, a fitting city for a gypsy punk band.
Alabama, Alabama...please understand that the last thing you need is another George Wallace, this time in the form of a man who basically stood on the Alabama Supreme Courthouse steps and screamed, "Ten Commandments now, Ten Commandments tomorrow and Ten Commandments forever!" (Ok, I exaggerate.) Roy Moore wants to return "Alabama to the people" but those people must commit to only breaking one commandment, the one about idol worshiping.
Check out the "themed mixes" site Out of 5 for their ten choices for covers of songs that eclipse original. I'm not sure I agree with any of these with the possible exception of the Ted Leo.
For today's ultimate time waster, I offer up this site full of all the Mad magazine covers you could ever care to look at. {via}
Finally, if you can't read 'em, eat 'em.
