Today, Dad and I begin the 2000-mile trek across the U.S. I'm a little skeptical of the directions the most popular mapping sites have given me, but for now, this is the planned route. That sure is a lot of Mississippi.
In case you're wondering why we're not just taking the 10 straight across, I have one word for you: Texas. As a veteran of six cross-country drives, I can tell you that nothing is worse than the time spent driving through the neverending Texas. I have nothing against the state, but I like a little variety in my road trips. So instead of the 10 and its one thousand miles of Texas, we'll be making the 40 our freeway of choice. It will take us a little over a day to meet up with the 40, with Dallas being the most logical stop after this first day of driving.
I can tell you that northern LA isn't much better (and much wider than you might think). At least not at 4 in the morning.
Safe travels.
