A few weeks ago, Wordsmiths of Decatur, Georgia, pleaded for community donations to keep their doors open. NPR asks whether or not a for-profit company should ask for donations. There seems to be this idea that Wordsmiths is twisting folks arms. For what it's worth, if store patrons, and those who care about independent bookstores, want to donate to the cause, so be it. If it doesn't work, then the market has truly spoken and Wordsmiths will go the way of countless indy bookstores before it.
