I apologize if I sound like a cranky hardass, and I certainly understand why folks would be saddened by the death of a relatively young celebrity--no matter where he or she is situated on the alphabetical-list of status--but do we really need saturation coverage of Anna Nicole Smith's death? With that in mind, I give my quote of the day to CNN's Lou Dobbs who while previewing his show during Wolf Blitzer's Situation Room said, "Over the course of the next hour there will be no reporting beginning at the top of the hour on the passing of Anna Nicole Smith. I hope you'll join us. Back to you, Wolf."
A Nation Mourns.
Don't get me wrong - I'm all for the sadness of the loss of a life. But lots of people die everyday. Apparently you have to be a washed-up tart to get screaming headlines and wall-to-wall coverage.
Is that too harsh?

I have no doubt Mr Dobbs resorted to his usual hectoring of illegal immigrants :

Anderson Cooper was all set to report on the condition of New Orleans and then the show was truncated by the not-so-surprising demise of ANS. So that I take sorta personally. But it is a microcosm of a bigger problem. people don't give a shit about what really effects them (Scooter Libby) and more about...
...I won't get started. It could go on and on and I don't have the time.

Speaking of harsh, listen to Bernard Cafferty's comments on her death.
