Shelved

I've mentioned before that I'm under spousal mandate to buy a new bookshelf so that the ever growing stack of books will have a proper home, one that doesn't involve hallway closets or fireplace mantels or baby cribs.  The only problem is finding a bookshelf that fits in with the general decor and one that will have the right temperament to play host to the Vollmanns and Faulkners and Kerouacs.  You can't just rush out to Target and grab any old particle board p.o.s. and expect the books to automatically be drawn to its bland personality and chemical smells.  It takes time and effort.  And most important, it takes a careful eye because sometimes you never know what you're getting.  For example, this is what happens when good bookshelves go bad:

The body of a missing US woman has been found by her family, wedged upside down behind a bookcase in her room.

Mariesa Weber, 38, is believed to have fallen over and become trapped as she tried to reach behind the bookcase to adjust the plug for a TV set.

Her family spent nearly two weeks searching for her, fearing she had been kidnapped from the house she shared with them in Florida. {via}
